As you may or may not know I am currently in the UK working remotely while staying with family. Over the last few weeks I have spent a lot of time looking after my baby niece who is 11 months old. She is lovely (most of the time) and I have to say often makes me laugh.

What are Aussie’s doing with Social Media?

Just out yesterday (May 25th) is a new report from Sensis on What Australia people and businesses are doing with social media. It is chock full of info – for all you Aussie social people it is worth a read. With 36 pages of info I have just picked out some key points that I think are interesting. In the survey Sensis spoke to 803 consumers and 1944 businesses (ranging from small to large).
Consumers
Australian consumers use social networking sites on average 4.5 times a week, with 30% of people using them daily, this was pretty consistent across all states, however SA and NT were below the average at 24% and TAS was way above at 44% – I think I know who is driving up this stat! Often I find that I get so close to social media that I forget that some people just don’t want to use it, here are the reasons that people cited for not using social networking sites. As you can see from the chart below the main reason is lack of interest, whereas I am sure most of you would have put your money on privacy?

I meet lots of people through my speaking and workshops – after the session I tell them that if they have a question I am more than happy to answer it for free on the Social Rabbit Facebook page.
I recently ran a workshop with 35 people in it and after I had made the comment, one lady said but, what will you do if everyone asks a question? I responded that it won’t happen, and if it does I will be super excited. She didn’t seem to believe me. I told her that around 0.5 people in 10 from the workshops and speaking actually do ask a question on the page. She said well I’m definitely going to – and has she? No. In fact no one from that session asked a question on the page. And yet, I know that they have questions.
I find this strange.
