The Low Down On Google+

Good Morning, Social Rabbit here with your guide to the world of social media.

Google+ opened its doors at the end of June last year to personal users and finally opened the doors to business pages in November 2011.  There are now apparently over 90 million users of Google+, with 60% active daily.  Now first of all let’s just clarify that 90 million people have created an account, which we all know is different to actually “using it”.  Then 60% active daily sounds massive, when in actual fact it means that 60% of those 90 million use a Google product daily, eg search, once you know this it doesn’t sound quite as impressive does it?

The top person on Google+ is Britney Spears with 1.5million followers, so nowhere as many people’s followers on Twitter or Facebook, but for a network that has only been around for 6 months it isn’t bad.  Whereas the top page is Coldplay with only 521,000 followers….

Will Your Business Google+?

Good Morning, Social Rabbit here with your guide to the world of social media.

Yesterday Google announced that Google+ pages are available for businesses.  A number of pages have already been set up, but any organization can start a page at plus.google.com/pages/create.  I just created my Social Rabbit Google+ page this morning in about 1 minute (I am not joking).  Basically setting up a business page is the same as setting up a personal page on Google+ and seems to work in exactly the same way.

Free Tools for Measuring Word-of-Mouth on Social Networks

Good morning, Social Rabbit here lying on a sunlounger drinking cocktails, while gorgeous guest bloggers help entertain you!  Today’s is Michelle Damico from Chicago….

Greetings from Chicago Illinois, USA and Thank You to my Social Rabbit friend Lara for inviting me to be a guest blogger while she gets some much needed rest.

As I write this, it’s 11 am, Thursday October 21 on a beautiful, sunny, cool and crisp Autumn day in Chicago. The weather has been consistently beautiful for two weeks now and we are all so grateful as we brace for Chicago’s brutal winter.  WorldTimeZone.com tells me that it’s now 3 am Friday, October 22 in Sydney, which means I better write fast if I am to meet Lara’s deadline!

Lara asked me to write about social media from a US business perspective, and after attending a fantastic “Social Media for Small Business” workshop in downtown  Chicago earlier this month, I thought I’d share my notes (which I’ll also be talking about on my blog — MichelleDamico.com).
