Good Examples of Local Government on Facebook

Good morning, Social Rabbit here with your guide to the world of social media.

Today at special request from Fiona, I’m looking at what Government’s are up to on Facebook.  This is actually very good timing, since yesterday I went and spoke to the Greater Dandenong council about their social media plans.

Fairfax County in the USA, have a great tab on their page called “ask Fairfax” where they encourage comments and questions.  I’ve said this a few times before, but you need to make it easy (and obvious) for people to talk to you, and this is a great example of that.

Good afternoon, Social Rabbit here with your guide to the world of social media.

At SXSW I went to a session, which was entitled 27 fun ways to kill your community.  As I sat there I thought now there’s a great blog topic, but rather than killing any community how you can kill your Facebook page community.  I know that lots of you spend lots of time on your Facebook pages, and so hopefully you can look at these (sometimes silly) tips and turn them around into what you do to keep your community!

Mental Monday: Gen BuY

Good Afternoon, Social Rabbit here with your guide to the world of social media.

Today’s book is Gen Buy – How tweens, teens, and twenty-somethings are revolutionizing retail by Kit Yarrow and Jayne O’Donnell.  If you are running a business that appeals to this Gen Y audience then it contains a lot of great insights into how they tick, what they are looking for, what they want in a brand and how to communicate with them.

Gen Y is the generation that has grown up in the digital age, and that makes this book an important one to read when looking at social media, because they are very active on it and expect a lot from brands.  The book contains eight chapters covering why they buy, why they are different to their parents, shopping, sex and work.

The secrets of the bloggers from the Problogger conference!

Good Morning, Social Rabbit here with your guide to the world of social media.

Avid readers may know that last week I went to a blogging couse run by Problogger Darren Rowse in Melbourne.  In the video below there are tips from 23 different people (including Darren) who attended the course giving their thoughts and tips on what they learnt from the day.  Apologies in advance as it turns out that bloggers are pretty chatty, so some are a little hard to hear.

As you have seen we covered a lot on the day and I will be over the next few weeks writing posts relating to what I learnt, if you are a blogger and want to find out more keep an eye out to see if Darren is going to run this again next year.

If there is anything specific you’d like to know write it in the comments :)
