On your Facebook page wall you can decide what people can do,
Often I will visit a page and find that they don’t let me “do” anything. I think this is ridiculous!
Social media is supposed to be social (the clue is in the name). It is all about listening, talking and building a relationship, how can you do that if you don’t let the other person talk?

I found this cool infographic from Voltier Digital on inbound and outbound marketing. I don’t know about you but I’ve been reading about the increase of inbound marketing for a while now, but I love a good infographic for showing me what people are thinking. This one cuts right to the chase and basically says that it is time to stop pounding a message into consumers heads and hoping that it will stick! Love it!
But moving from outbound to inbound marketing you need a mindset change, you have choices, but it’s not free, that I think is one of the biggest myths around. Marketing still costs money, but now you are just spending it in a different way. Instead of paying for an ad in the newspaper/on tv/in the yellow pages etc. you are going to pay for someone to engage with your customers. This may seem to be more expensive initially, but it is a long term strategy instead of a quick hit.
The stats in here show that people are skipping ads, not opening direct mail, unsubscribing from enewsletters and have put their phone numbers on the do not call register. These are American stats, but still they are indicative of the way the world is going. If you know someone who hasn’t started using inbound marketing, I suggest that you send this post to them…. the sooner you get onboard the less likely you are to lose customers!
If you are not sure what inbound marketing is, it is all about adding value through things like social media participation and content marketing (e.g. ebooks, blogs, whitepapers).

Today I called up my mobile provider asking to change my plan. I was obviously sent to some overseas call centre, now I don’t really have a problem with that, I understand that companies try to save money by doing that, as long as the staff are well trained and speak good english I don’t think it matters. In this case though I got a girl who was obviously completely following a script, I got called Ma’am and was told ”Can I confirm that your enquiry is about your mobile phone number xxxxxxxx in regards to changing your plan” (after I said I want to change my plan for this number) then, ”I am just looking up your information now is that ok?” It was very formal, with zero personality injected.
Good customer service is important, but in this day and age one size really does not fit all….

I’ve been hearing lots of interesting things about a website called Pinterest, basically it is an online pin board. Pinterest started in March 2010, as a way for people to share images that they like in visual categories. Below is a pin board that I created of my favourite business books.
