Here’s a Quick Way to Come Up with Blog Ideas

Good Morning, Social Rabbit here with your guide to the world of social media.

Whether you are posting on your blog or on Facebook or YouTube or wherever one of the biggest challenges that people find (this Rabbit included) is coming up with ideas on what to post – hands up if that’s you…

What I want to show you is how you can incorporate everyday things into your blog posts, they don’t have to be rocket science, if you are passionate about something then relate it back to what you talk about.  Remember people like to be entertained, they remember the things that entertain them, and so many ideas out there come from others that you can use practically anything in the everyday world to relate to what you want to talk on, just use a little imagination!

Events

Make your posts topical (note – this is great for SEO for your blog), what I mean by this is find out what is coming up in terms of events and then relate your posts to that, if you check out this events article it has a calendar of events happening worldwide.  For example July 6th was Running with the Bulls, you could easily relate that back to your topic, I could write a blog post on how people run like a bull at the red flag of social media without stopping to think about what happens afterwards!  Another good site for this is Frommer’s What’s On When this has events from all over the world.

Movies

Again relate your posts to what’s happening out there in the world with Movies.  Most blockbusters get lots of attention by the mainstream media, so people will know what you are talking about.  The website MovieWeb has every movie that is coming out listed with the release date, actors, photos, the trailer and some reviews.  Often the movie’s that are coming out are remakes of old classics or a book made into a movie, so if you know the movie story line you can relate this into what your topic is.  For example here I have chosen Yogi Bear (a cartoon I watched when I was growing up), Yogi and Boo boo I am sure will spend the whole movie trying to get one over on Ranger Smith in Jellystone park!  I could write a blog post on how the little guys can make a difference.

Food

How about relating your posts to a food item, eg I wrote a post last year on the ingredients needed for my ideal sandwich, and why they were important, and I related this back to my marketing plan.  Just choose something you love and relate it back, for example I make homemade pizza and this is a great blog post topic, all about getting the right sauce and then building up from there.

Drinks

Very similar to food, talk about your favourite drink and why you like it and relate it back to what your blog is on.  For example I love cosmopolitans, why because of the colour, the taste, the “sex & the city” relationship.  To relate this back to my blog I could talk about what makes the ideal Facebook Page cocktail – colour, image, information etc.  You want to choose something that you enjoy and can relate back.

Celebs

When you look at people like Justin Bieber, really popular with teenage girls, they are actively out there in the mainstream media doing what some might think are crazy things all the time!  Just this week Justin sent a tweet out to all his Twitter followers with a phone number saying call me, is wasn’t his number, he was getting revenge on someone else, but that number received 26,000 text messages as a result!  Mashable covered the story and turned it into a parable saying once you tweet it there is no delete button!  You can do this with other crazy things, just pick up any women’s celebrity mag and I am sure you will have enough blog posts for the next month!

What I am trying to say in this blog post is that you don’t have to think I blog on x so therefore I always have to talk about x.  If you can relate your posts to current events, celebs, food, drinks and movies you are going to a) make your blog more personal – just through the topic you write on, here I talked about Cosmo’s, b) make your blog more interesting and therefore memorable and c) help with your SEO especially if you are talking about really hot topics, eg Justin Bieber!

Has anyone tried using any of these techniques before?  I’d love to hear, and watch out for more food and movie blogs coming your way….
