Are all comments good comments?
Good Morning, Social Rabbit here with your guide to the world of social media.
I made the video below about 4 weeks ago and it has had a MASSIVE 117 views…
My point with this video was to say that you need to make it easy for people to find your business, yes they can search, and yes some will search, but most people are busy and if they can’t find you quickly may not bother to keeping searching. What it means is that they end up going with another company who they have found more easily.
This video may not have had many views, but it certainly got people riled up! If you click on the YouTube channel you will see that there are 3 comments, all of them are basically calling me an idiot! Obviously I am not keen on that, however I am really interested to see the reaction that it got. This is what I notice:
Now this blog post is NOT a moan about how can they say this to me. What I wanted to focus on is the actual fact that they responded like this. First of all a story…. I do some consulting for a gift brand called Snowgoose and set up their Facebook page. Last week I was chatting to the marketing girl about it, and she said you can’t find it on Facebook, she was searching and what came up on her screen first was the results for people, if you scrolled down you got the page results and therefore found Snowgoose. She said it took her ages to find it and she was looking for it. I think that this story really illustrates the point I am trying to make in the video. If you don’t make it easy then people get distracted and don’t find you.
Now the comments that were on this video were they bad? No, I love the fact that people were so ‘outraged’ by the video that they felt strongly enough to comment. I believe that social media is all about self expression and interacting with your audience, the good the bad and the ugly. Does it reflect badly on me that I have an opinion that I have put out there? I don’t think so, what I see is that we all have different opinions, different ideas and by using social media we can express them.
What I did find interesting about the comments is that all the women I have spoken to about it have said yes that’s so true, you need to make it easy for people to find you, as yes they do get distracted, and the clearer your instructions the more likely people are to go to the right place. I strongly believe that people’s lives are hectic/crazy and I like it when a brand/company makes my life easier by just telling me where to go for the info rather than just expecting me to search about for it, personally I have better things to do with my time and ‘liking’ a pizza place on Facebook is not a top priority so if you really want me to like it tell me exactly where to go.
I am now waiting with baited breath to see what comments I get from this post… will there be more people telling me I am stupid? Let me know in the comments…
